The Pre-Work

I email you a questionnaire to complete ahead of the session. You answer questions about your block/issue and provide information about your current situation and your background. This helps to speed up my case conceptualisation so that we maximise the time we have on the call.

 

What We Do in the Re-Do Session.

We get really clear (specific and precise) on what you want to shift—i.e., once you had shifted, what is the key thing that would be different in how you behave, think, or feel.

We get really clear on the underlying negative core beliefs.
We get clear on how these beliefs and the parts that hold them developed (e.g. the attachment wounding).
We get clear on what the more helpful or positive belief is that you are wanting to embrace.
I lead you through a resourcing visualisation to attain a sense of inner safety.

 

After the Hour

After the hour I create a bespoke, tailored visualisation for you—with binaural beats—that addresses your exact negative beliefs. The visualisation includes a re-do of the attachment wounding that led to these beliefs. In this way we work with the part of the brain that doesn’t know the difference between reality and fantasy. As long as you feel the feelings of the re-do, your brain starts to re-wire. This is what neuroplasticity is.

You then listen to this visualisation frequently. Ideally on a daily basis. Eventually the positive beliefs that we are reinforcing become stronger and become the default mode. This is when you find yourself responding to triggers differently. This is when you start to see options you didn’t see before. This is when you start to feel calmer or more empowered. This is when the universe and people start to respond to you differently.

 

Is it an Attachment Wound?

But you say:
Are you sure it is an attachment wound? I don’t think I was traumatised by my childhood and anyway I already dealt with that in therapy.

Pretty sure. Most stuff goes back to childhood or teenage years. In our session we don’t play “hunt the bad guys.” We simply identify the misattunement we experienced.

Unfortunately, no parent is perfect and, due to their own wounding, they will have responded to us suboptimally. Often there is no “standout” obvious trauma. There is just a constant backdrop to our childhood environment that was “off.” Maybe it felt so familiar to us that it doesn’t even feel off.

For example, perhaps our mother’s anxiety felt so normal that we didn’t even conceive of her as anxious. Yet an anxious mother is, to us as babies and kids, a scary mother. This is because our nervous system piggybacks off her nervous system. Our amygdala is constantly scanning for danger, and if our supposedly “safe person” doesn’t feel safe, then for our nervous system that feels like we are about to die. So imagine feeling like this constantly. Except we don’t—because we develop other parts to avoid that feeling, such as dissociating.

I can also share with you the transits you are currently experiencing to give you a sense of timelines and upcoming stages/cycles connected to the issue you are working with. These timelines can give some certainty in a time of uncertainty.

How Does EMDR Work?

It works with the part of the brain that doesn’t know the difference between reality and fantasy. As long as you resonate with it, you start to update the memory card of the trauma memory and let it know that that was then and this is now.

Why Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) Using Binaural Beats

Bilateral stimulation helps the brain do what it naturally wants to do: process, integrate, and release.

By rhythmically activating both hemispheres, BLS allows the nervous system to soften its grip around old emotional memories. It helps the brain recognise that the danger has passed, and that you are no longer in the original situation.

In simple terms, BLS allows the re-do visualisation to “go in” more deeply because your system is in a state where it can accept new information, update old associations, and settle into safety.

After the Session

After the session, as well as the personalised visualisation, you get a workbook with journal prompts and positive beliefs and affirmations connected specifically to your issue.

We use resourcing practices throughout the day — visualisation, polyvagal exercises, grounding, and breath — to help you stay present and safe.
