Is the Cost of Therapy Worth it or Just a Rip Off?

When weighing up the cost of therapy, you may find your mouse hesitating to click on the ‘get in touch’ button. You start doing the mental maths of how much it’s going to add up to per month. Then you start thinking about the things you’ll have to go without. Or, you think about all the things you could buy with the money instead. You focus on the monetary cost of therapy and try to decide if it is good value. When making your decision, here are some additional points to consider…..

Who Do You Work With? I work best with you if you are very motivated to create a big change. You feel energised, you have a sense of calling that now is the time, now is your moment and there is no time to waste. You are willing to commit fully to therapy and make it one of your highest priorities. Of course this doesn’t mean that you don’t have fears about therapy or parts that are reluctant to change. It just means that your desire to change is greater than your desire to stay the same. It feels like staying the same would cost you too much. You want real change, structural change. Not just tools. You may already have done therapy and have a certain level of awareness but this is not required. You recognise that therapy is most effective when it is committed. I bring my presence, my energy, my life experience, my skills and expertise. You bring your willingness and together we can create big shifts.

Is it possible to have sessions every 2 weeks ? No, for the following reasons: 1), for therapy to be most effective there needs to be a degree of trust and safety within the therapeutic relationship. Weekly sessions provides the right container for this. Meeting less frequently slows this process down and means it takes longer for the therapy to be effective. 2) meeting weekly means I am more quickly able to get a good grasp of you and your issues and come up with an accurate formulation. Spreading this process out over sessions every two weeks slows this down and makes therapy less effective.; 3) Meeting bi-weekly often means that by the time you have spent some time catching me up on the past two weeks and only leaves aroung 30 minutes for actual therapy. Bearing in mind we need 5-10 minutes to close down the session and ensure you are grounded.

If your reason for wanting bi-weekly sessions is due to resources, I suggest it is more cost effective and treatment effective to commit to a certain number of sessions determined by you and we make the most of those sessions in a weekly format. You then take a break and process and see how you do. You can always come back for more when you are ready and able.

If your reason for wanting bi-weekly sessions is for fear of it being too much. I can assure you that the aim of any therapy session is for you to leave feeling grounded. Weekly sessions processes challenging feelings faster. Whereas bi-weekly sessions is more likely to draw out the discomfort.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not work directly with insurance companies or join provider networks.

However, I can provide detailed invoices (often referred to as a “superbill”) which some clients—particularly those with international or US-based insurance—have successfully used to claim partial reimbursement.

These invoices can include the relevant clinical and session information required by insurers. Reimbursement is always subject to your individual policy, so I recommend checking directly with your provider in advance.

Please note that I operate as a UK-based private practice, and invoices are issued accordingly.
